... Anaesthesia at Randwick Day Surgery

Randwick Day Surgery offers a flexible anaesthetic service allowing most patients to undergo painless, stress-free dental treatment. Some adults may only require sedation for a simple brief procedure.

The most common after-effect of the anaesthetic is sore throat and some patients may experience nausea and headache. Serious side-effects are rare and most patients are ready for discharge home within 1-2 hours following the procedure.

An escort is always required as there may still be some residual effects from the anaesthesia and surgery until the following day. A contact number is always available and a member of staff will contact the patient the following day.

Those patients who do not come within the Randwick Day Surgery guidelines or who have medical problems will need a pre-anaesthetic assessment by one of our visiting anaesthetists to ensure optimum care can be provided and to assess suitability for day surgery.

Randwick Day Surgery strives to uphold all standards of quality care and is an accredited day surgery. This is achieved by various means:

  • All of the equipment within the surgery is serviced regularly.
  • We have regular in-service sessions for all staff members.
  • An infection control officer ensures policies and procedures are followed according to NSW Health Department regulations and standards.
  • Patients or practitioners who have any concerns regarding their anaesthesia can discuss these with the anaesthetists.
