... To make an Appointment

If you would like to explore the option of having your dental treatment done under general anaesthetic and you have a regular dentist, first check with your dentist to see if he/she is accredited to the Day Surgery.

If your dentist is accredited he/she will be familiar with the booking procedure and will make the arrangements for you.

If your dentist is not accredited, ask him/her to check out this web page. He/she can download the accreditation forms or contact the Day Surgery and we will send them out.

If you do not have a regular dentist, call our office staff who will give you the name of an accredited dentist to contact.

You will need to be assessed by the dentist who will carry out your dental work. This is generally done at their surgery where they will explain to you the procedure and give you the pre-admission form. You will be required to return the forms to the Day Surgery at least one week before your admission, either by fax, mail or deliver in person. When the form is received our office staff will contact you and fully inform you about the admission process.

... Explanation of Charges

As an in-patient you will receive 3 accounts:

  • from the dentist/oral surgeon
  • from the anaesthetist
  • from the Randwick Day Surgery

The dentist / oral surgeon will provide you with their quote and you can arrange with him/her the method of payment.

The anaesthetists fee will be quoted by the Randwick Day Surgery and is payable on admission. You will be able to claim a portion of this from Medicare and, if you have private health insurance, part of the "gap" can be claimed from your fund.

The Randwick Day Surgery charges are based on the use of the operating theatres and the recovery room and includes the cost of any pharmaceuticals or extras required by your surgeon. The exact amount will vary according to the time in theatre and type of procedure.

If you have private health insurance you will be asked to sign a health fund claim form which the day surgery will lodge on your behalf.

If you have no private health insurance you will be given a quote for your accommodation and theatre which is payable on admission.

    ... Prior to your procedure

Once we have received your pre-admission form you will be contacted by the receptionist who will advise you regarding

  • fasting
  • medications
  • admission time
  • escort requirements
  • fees payable

    ... On the day

You are requested to arrive at the Day Surgery 30 minutes prior to your procedure. You will be asked to complete your documentation and make all necessary payments to the receptionist, then you will be admitted by the nursing staff. The anaesthetist will also speak with you prior to the procedure at which time you can discuss any queries you may have regarding the anaesthetic.

    ... After the procedure

You will be cared for in the recovery area by experienced Registered Nurses. The length of your stay depends on the type of procedure performed and the length of time in theatre.

The nursing staff will advise you and your escort of all post-operative instructions and you will be given a printed instruction sheet with after hours contact numbers, should you require them.

    ... On arriving home

Once home you should rest, and you must have someone with you overnight in case you require assistance.

If you have any problems please contact the Day Surgery or your Dentist/Surgeon.

One of our registered nurses will contact you within 24 hours to see how you are and provide any follow-up advice.
